Finding your work/life balance

 Finding the work life balance.

Balancing work and life can be challenging for anyone, but it can be especially difficult for female entrepreneurs. Juggling the demands of a business and family can be tricky, but with careful planning it is possible. Here are five tips to help you find the work/life balance that works for you.

1) Make a schedule and stick to it. Plan out your days ahead of time and make sure you have enough time set aside for both your job and your family. Take time out and think about what is important to you, your family and your business. Think about how you want to show up and how you plan to get there. Break your goals down into manageable weekly task and allow yourself a generous amount of time to finish them. When you have a plan stay on task. Multi-tasking doesn’t work for everyone. Whatever you are doing do it with mindfulness and see it through to completion. If you are still feeling overwhelmed, break the task down even further so you grow your own confidence both in planning and executing, and your integrity (doing what you say you will.)

2) Set boundaries. If you're working from home, make sure you set specific hours which are family time and hours which belong to your business. Although flexibility is a fantastic skill to have, it gets far too demanding if you are being pulled between packing a customer order and getting the washing on the line.

Learning to say No so that you respect yourself, your time and your resources again is a skill that is learnt by practicing on a regular basis. We tend to say yes on a knee jerk reaction, yet it is far better to stop and take a breath and say, “Hey I’ll get back to you on that.” Give yourself time to think if doing this serves you, your family or your goals and then check your calendar.

3) Delegate tasks wherever possible. Ask your spouse or partner to help with family and chores. Again, think about what is important to you. Hiring someone to do extra hours in the office each week may free up time for you to do the important mother stuff or hiring a cleaner for a couple of hours a week may give you the extra space on the weekend to watch the kids play sport.

4. Hopefully while you were putting your goals together you planned good stuff to do with the family and for you. Keeping partners, children and yourself happy and healthy can take some serious juggling but again, a little planning goes a long way. Meal planning, online grocery shopping, online gift and present shopping are fantastic ways to save both time, money and your sanity. But again, planning is the key. Who has birthdays coming up, what are the book club books next month and yes, its only March but Christmas will arrive in a hurry just like it did last year.

5. Remember to take care of you. You have all the balls in the air juggling all week, what is your thing? What makes you feel happy and contented and loved. Find the things that look after you and add them to your day or your week. As a busy female entrepreneur, it is so important that we teach our children how to take care of our selves and the best way to do this is by being a role model and taking the time to take care of you.
